Arjen Robben's second goal in as many games earned FC Bayern München a narrow win against 1. FC Nürnberg to bring Hupp Heynckes's side to within three points of the Bundesliga summit.
Following their 2-0 UEFA Champions League quarter-final first-leg win at Olympique de Marseille, Bayern struggled to find their stride in the Bavarian derby but Robben, who scored in midweek, made amends for a first-half miss with a volley from just outside the area. Bayern were able to whittle two points off Borussia Dortmund's Bundesliga lead after they were held to a 4-4 draw against VfB Stüttgart on Friday.
Meanwhile, resurgent SC Freiburg sealed a fourth league win in five matches with a 2-0 success at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, who are now sixth, Marcell Jansen's solitary strike edged victory for Hamburger SV at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, while 1. FSV Mainz 05 also won on the road, completing a 3-0 triumph at SV Werder Bremen. Elsewhere, Augsburg FC were 2-1 winners against relegation embattled 1. FC Köln. In the late fixture, Patrick Helmes scored twice as VfL Wolfsburg came from behind to overwhelm second-from-bottom Hertha BSC Berlin 4-1.
