Paris Saint-Germain FC have a seven-point cushion at the Ligue 1 summit after beating Stade Rennais FC 2-0.

Olympique de Marseille had narrowed the gap on Friday by defeating FC Girondins de Bordeaux, thus putting the pressure on Carlo Ancelotti's men to respond against Rennes, who have proved PSG's bete noir in recent years. Indeed, the captial club had previously failed to win any of their last ten trips to Brittany and lost 2-1 at home to Les Rouges et Noirs in November.

Rennes have struggled for form of late, though, and despite resting Ezequiel Lavezzi, Thiago Silva, Alex and Christophe Jallet, it was no surprise that the visitors took the lead just after the interval. Jérémy Ménez was the scorer, skipping round three challenges before finishing emphatically.

Zlatan Ibrahimović wrapped up the points with a close-range header in added time, making sure David Beckham's clip over goalkeeper Benoît Costil crossed the line for his 26th goal in 27 top-flight appearances.

In the pick of the day's late matches, OGC Nice moved up to fourth after edging a seven-goal thriller at Toulouse FC. Leading 3-2 with eight minutes left thanks to a rare double from Éric Bautheac, Nice then struggled past the winning post.

Toulouse goalkeeper Ali Ahamada was dismissed before Wissam Ben Yedder claimed his second goal in the last minute – a sequence of events repeated by Nice, who had Alexy Bosetti sent off in added time before Kevin Anin snatched the win.
