PSG crowned in France after Lyon victory

Paris Saint-Germain FC are savouring their first Ligue 1 title since 1993/94 and their third overall after Jérémy Ménez found the net to secure a 1-0 victory at Olympique Lyonnais.

Paris Saint-Germain FC are celebrating their first Ligue 1 title in 19 years and their third overall after Jérémy Ménez scored the only goal in a 1-0 triumph at Olympique Lyonnais.

Needing a win to wrap up the championship with two games remaining, PSG started slowly at the Stade de Gerland before gradually finding their feet as half-time approached. They made the all-important breakthrough eight minutes after the restart as Thiago Motta exchanged passes with Zlatan Ibrahimović before setting up Ménez to find the back of the net with a left-footed shot.

Carlo Ancelotti's charges held their hosts at bay after that to put the seal on their first league title since 1993/94, with his side lifting themselves seven points clear of closest pursuers Olympique de Marseille. As for Lyon, they missed the chance to tighten their grip on France's third and final UEFA Champions League spot.

OGC Nice suffered a major blow in their own quest to finish third as they slumped to a 4-0 loss away against Évian Thonon Gaillard FC, Saber Khelifa scoring twice. Les Aiglons lie three points behind Lyon, level with LOSC Lille, while Évian moved out of the bottom three and sealed bottom club Stade Brestois 29's relegation. Elsewhere, sixth-placed AS Saint-Étienne spurned the opportunity to leapfrog Nice as they lost 3-1 at FC Lorient.
