FC Basel extended their lead in the Swiss championship race with an excellent 3-1 away win.

FC Basel extended their lead in the Swiss championship race with an excellent 3-1 away win over FC St. Gallen tonight.

Determined mood
The home side actually took the lead after a superb 44th-minute volley from Franco di Jorio and held the advantage at the break, but Basel were in determined mood in the second half.

Yakin uses his head
Murat Yakin made the decisive impact, with headed goals after 54 and 56 minutes. Marco Zwyssig killed the match with the visitors' third goal in the 70th minute. The leaders now have 40 points, seven more than second-placed Grasshopper-Club.
