Ukraine mourning Gusin death

Former midfielder Andriy Gusin, who represented Ukraine 71 times and won seven league titles with FC Dynamo Kyiv, died in a motorbike accident on Wednesday.

Former FC Dynamo Kyiv and Ukraine midfielder Andriy Gusin has died following a motorbike accident today.

The 41-year-old lost control of his vehicle on a bend during a training heat at Kyiv's Chaika Motordrome. Gusin, who most recently was on FC Anji Makhachkala's coaching staff, died without regaining consciousness. He leaves a wife and three children.

Born in the Lviv region, Gusin represented FC Karpaty Lviv, FC Krylya Sovetov Samara, FC Saturn Moskovskaya Oblast and Dynamo Kyiv, with whom he won seven Ukrainian titles, four domestic cups and played in the 1999 UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

A scorer of nine goals in 71 international outings, Gusin featured in every game of Ukraine's run to the last eight of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
