FC Zürich opened the new Swiss first division season with a 3-0 win against FC St. Gallen tonight.
Tarone opens scoring
Zürich midfield player Daniel Tarone had the honour of scoring the season's first goal with a 29th-minute penalty. Guinean striker Alhassane Keita doubled the lead soon afterwards, registering in the 36th minute after pouncing on a ball dropped by St. Gallen's goalkeeper, Oliver Stöckli.
Second for Keita
Keita was to make it 3-0 just before full time, when Stöckli hit a clearance straight to him, the forward making the most of his opportunity, beating the goalkeeper.
The result also leaves St Gallen needing to lift themselves for their UEFA Intertoto Cup second-round match at Dutch club Willem II on Saturday. Zürich host FC Levadia Maardu from Estonia the same day, when the rest of the Swiss top-flight fixtures begin.
