Grasshopper-Club continued their prolific start to the new Swiss season with a resounding 5-1 victory at Neuchâtel Xamax FC.
Grasshoppers needed only 15 minutes to start the rout, Richard Nuñez opening the scoring and Mate Baturina adding a second from long range in the 30th minute. The second half was a similar story, Argentinian newcomer Antonio Barihjo adding the third after 59 minutes.
Alexander Rey pulled a goal back for the hosts but Barihjo netted his second to restore the three-goal cushion. Croatia international Mladen Petric netted the fifth in injury time with the only blot on the visitors' copybook being Bosnian defender Alexander Mitreski's 70th-minute sending off for a professional foul.
In Geneva, Servette FC were far too strong for FC Luzern, 17-year-old central defender Philippe Senderos an unlikely hero with both goals in a 2-0 win. Another 17-year-old defender, FC St. Gallen's Tranquillo Barnetta, was also on the scoresheet as his side battled out a 1-1 draw at home against FC Basel. Dario Rossi saved a point for the visitors after 76 minutes.
Chapuisat on target
Swiss striking legend Stéphane Chapuisat kept up his good run of form with the only goal of the game for BSC Young Boys at home to FC Aarau. Chapuisat struck in the 89th minute after Freddy Chassot was sent off on the stroke of half-time for the visitors.
