UEFA technical observers

At the final tournament in Slovakia, UEFA fielded two technical observers, reinforced by the presence of chief technical officer, Ioan Lupescu.

Dušan Fitzel was born in Slovakia but split his playing career between the Czech Republic and Cyprus. He took over the youth teams at SK Slavia Praha when he hung up his boots and first became head of the Czech Republic youth sides in 1998. He returned to take the post of technical director in 2009 after a three-year spell as national coach and technical director in Malta.

Willi Ruttensteiner was born in the Austrian city of Steyr. He started his coaching studies at the age of 28 in 1990 and made his first division debut as head coach of FC Linz. He joined the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) as sports coordinator and Under-21 coach in 1999; had a couple of short spells as head coach of the senior national team and has been the ÖFB's technical director since 2001.
