Bosnia-Herzegovina gained their maiden victory in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying and in turn condemned Group 3 leaders Wales to their first defeat of the campaign.
The visitors looked set to establish a seven-point lead over second-placed Hungary when Joe Allen struck after five minutes in Sarajevo. Anes Haurdić, however, equalised just before the half-hour mark and then claimed a second midway through the second period, leaving Wales four points ahead of Hungary, who have two games in hand.
Allen gave Wales the lead with a close-range finish before Haurdić levelled on 29 minutes, leaving two defenders trailing in his wake and beating goalkeeper Chris Maxwell. Nemanja Bilbija then narrowly failed to convert Muhamed Mujić's cross while six minutes after the break the former's header was kept out by Maxwell. The Wales No1 saved Nenad Kiso's spot-kick on the hour after Darcey Blake upended Bilbija but his heroics ultimately proved in vain as Haurdić finished off Ivan Sesar's pass five minutes later.
