"Eleven players who were eligible for the tournament were going to the Under-20 World Cup, which created a fantastic opportunity for other girls to play – 17 of them could play next year, four in the next two years. I was disappointed to lose all three games, of course, but I can only be proud of them. In all three games they showed that they can play at this level. We just didn't have the experience and the guile to finish off. But that was the objective: to gain as much valuable experience as possible."

England team analysis

England team analysis

• 4-3-3 with single screening midfielder and wingers

• Possession game; high-tempo passing, limited touches; good technique

• Solid back four linking well with anchoring midfielder to build from back

• Good width; wingers cutting in to create space for overlapping full-backs

• High line; composed under pressure; keeper quick to sweep at back

• Proficient approach play not matched by finishing and/or decisive pass in final third

• Positional rotations; competitive spirit; athletic qualities; strong work ethic
