"The girls showed their qualities and proved they can play football. There is lot of work for us still to do, but we are on the right track for girl's football to develop in our country."

Slovakia team analysis

Slovakia team analysis

  • Held a compact shape with five in the midfield including a holding player positioned predominantly in front of the defence.
  • Played fast transitions, often bypassing the midfield rather than playing their way out from the back.
  • Defended very deep with good defensive organisation, in particular in the first half and especially in their games against France and Norway.
  • Lots of positional rotation of players, demonstrating the versatility of their players and ability to adapt to different situations.
  • Dealt well with crosses and diagonal balls and particularly strong on the break from set pieces, with Martina Šurnovská (No.7) playing a pivotal role.
  • Employed an effective mixed marking approach to defending set-pieces.
